What Are Axolotls?

The axolotl (pronounced ACK-suh-LAH-tuhl) also known as Ambystoma mexicanum are aquatic salamanders originally from Xochimilco-Chalco basin in Mexico. Their habitat has been almost completely drained and the last sighting of any axolotls in the wild has been over 10 years now. Thankfully, due to their popularity as pets, they now thrive within the pet trade and even YOU can own your own axolotl!
